Application Advice
Frequently Asked Questions
For Student Applicants:
How do I find an appropriate organization where I hope to be an intern?
The first step is to identify a pro-LGBT 501(c)3 organization whose mission you support and then contact their leadership about the possibility about submitting your joint application for an internship grant award.
The first three parts of the application are written by the student. Part four is a detailed job description of what you will learn and the activities you will participate in during the course of the internship. This section is to be completed by the sponsoring organization in cooperation with the intern prior to the submission of the application.
How do I submit the fourth section of the application that requires a signature from the leadership of the sponsor organization?
The sponsor agreeement may be submitted in the PDF application without signatures. A signed copy of the sponsor agreement should be faxed to our offices if a document scanner is not available. The fax number is on the Contact Us page of this website.
How will I be compensated for my time during the internship?
The R. Scott Hitt Foundation sends all grant awards directly to the intern's sponsoring organization who are then responsible for the disbursement of funds to the intern. While the R. Scott Hitt Foundation openly states the amounts of the awards, the actual compensation received by the intern may be more or less depending on the compensation policies of the sponsoring organization.
Example: One of the Hitt Interns was provided additional benefits by the sponsoring organization in order to comply with the sponsoring organizations own operational policies.
I do not have Adobe software with which to convert my application to a PDF. May I submit my application in another format?
The Adobe.com website provides information on how to convert you documents to the PDF format for submission.
If you are unable to convert your documents, you must contact the Managing Director prior to the application submission deadline for assistance with this issue.
Before sending us your final application packet, we recommend emailing the PDF to another computer and opening the files in order to verify that your documents have all rendered themselves in the proper format.
